The Seabirds are partnering with Blue Green Expeditions for a citizen-science expedition to Spitsbergen and Greenland, with an optional add on for Iceland! This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime trip to see the Best of the Arctic.
On board, you’ll learn from world-leading experts and scientists about sea spiders and polar gigantism, marine benthic invertebrates, plankton, and more. Plus, as part of the Seabirds Squad, you’ll contribute to hydrophone recordings and social science experiments about the effect of polar exploration.
Expedition Aims: record whales with hydrophones, observe sea spiders/polar gigantism, measure plankton abundance and type, invertebrate observation, clean up plastics on Spitsbergen beach, ROV benthic surveys, social science of polar exploration
Possible Encounters: Polar bears, whales, musk oxen, walruses, arctic foxes, reindeer, ringed seals, bearded seals, and – of course – seabirds (guillemots).
Iceland Encounters: Puffins, diving Silfra fissure at night
